Warm and Hearty Steamboat Dinner

Steamboat / Hotpot Dinner on Rainy Day
Tonight was such perfect timing for a warm and hearty steamboat. Due to the wet weather condition, we cancelled our plan to Brisbane, spent the morning sleeping in, did laundry, then headed out for both clothes and grocery shopping in town. I've got myself two casual knitted tops, teehee! One grey, one maroon, you'll get to see me wearing them very soon =)

Alive and Cooking

Home Cooked Braised Chicken
I'm back! *hachu* Did any of yas miss me? The weather has been ridiculously hot these few days, WAY TOO HOT that I feel sick just sitting in front of the fan that blows me constant hot air. Our unit is like a "hot stove" in the summer afternoons.

Homemade Five-Spice Rolls (Penang Lobak)

Homemade Lobak
I'm back kicking in the kitchen!!! It's been a while since I last came up with something "new", as in cooking recipes. Still remember the mouth-watering Malaysian Styled Chicken Satay Skewers I made about few weeks ago? I'll be sharing another famous Malaysian street food with you today — Penang Lobak aka Five-Spice Rolls. My first attempt and I pretty much nailed it! ^^v

Friday the 13th: The Amazing Spider-Man and More

The Amazing Spider-Man Popcorn Combo
It was a productive day today! I spent the whole morning writing my curriculum vitae (CV) just for this IT job I came across somewhere on the internet. Yes, I'm still hunting for full-time jobs, if that's what you're curious about. I have been sending out my resumes electronically, heaps of them, but only called in for few interviews so far *sigh with disappointment* So I thought maybe my resume and cover letter weren't good enough? I revamped my resume a little, sent out another batch of new applications, and finally, I received a call scheduling for a face-to-face interview next week =)

Homemade Malaysian-Style Chicken Satay Skewers

Homemade Malaysian-Style Chicken Satay Skewers
I have prepared something special for dinner tonight. It's one of the most popular street food of Malaysia, satay!!! *grin* There is a variety of satay made from lamb, beef, pork... and chicken satay is what was on my mind today. We hardly come by any Malaysian-style satay in this small town we're living in, most of them are Thai with rather sweet taste. For that reason, I spent almost two hours busying myself in the kitchen, just for you, Mr. Choo!

Highlights of the Week

Outfit of the Day: Full of Hearts
My third post in May, which basically sums up the highlights of the entire week last week, as well as today. Be mindful because you're about to be loaded with excessive pictures of my sweet smiles, besides a collection of the good food I had. The worst part is, those extra calories have already turned into fats, and making themselves so comfortable under my skin now >.< I went for an eye test this afternoon, the Optometrist said I did a great job maintaining my eyesight for the past 5 or probably 7 years *flattered* Oh yeah, I've been wearing the same old geeky glasses for years and it's time for a change! Thanks Mr. Choo, for giving me such a wonderful yet practical birthday pressie this year.

All I wanna do now is to put up something nice here that would bring smile to my face and possibly yours too. Keep smiling!

Our Simple Little [V] Day

Valentine's Day Celebration 2012
My BB and I are celebrating our 6th Valentine's Day this year, and still counting. Tonight, no sweet chocolate, no flower bouquet, but just a simple little home-cooked dinner at home which delivers love, heart, and passion. Not to mentioned it was healthy, delicious and also cost-effective at the same time. I mean, who would have guessed that one could afford such wonderful meals for less than $30 only?!

Pre-Valentine's Day

Pre-Valentine's Day Shopping
It was pouring down so hard this afternoon but I insisted to go out cause first, I was already dressed up and second, I didn't wanna ruin my master plan to survey what to get for my BB tomorrow. Yes, Valentine's Day is just one day away from us!!! How excited! And I think I kinda have an idea of what gift I'll be giving to my beloved HIM. Ssshhh... I'm not gonna tell anyone... yet.

Lucky you cause I'll be sharing the secret little recipe in my post today (◠◡◠)

"Lou Sang" Gathering Dinner

"Lou Sang" Gathering Dinner
Woah, another potluck gathering and potluck dinner with friends?! That's right, we enjoyed cooking, eating and hanging out together over the festive seasons. I believe everybody does, except the cooking and washing part which takes up a lot of time :p But it was all worth it, when we came to see a full table of lovely dishes prepared for the "Lou Sang" gathering dinner at Kevin and Veny's place that night.

CNY Day 2: Potluck with Friends

CNY Day 2: Deep Fried Pork Meat Balls
Nian Chu Er aka the second day of Chinese New Year, we had a fabulously delicious potluck dinner with friends at our place. I roughly thought about the menu in the afternoon and came to a conclusion that I should prepare dishes which I'm more familiar with - Deep Fried Pork Meat Balls and Hot & Sour Roasted Chicken Soup.

Da Nian Chu Yi: Dinner with Friends

Dinner on Nian Chu Yi
My initial plan was to prepare hot and sour steamed whole fish for this potluck dinner we attended on the first day of Chinese New Year. But, after spending the efforts to gather side ingredients and everything else which needed, we found out that the Supa IGA in Clifford Garden (our favorite place in town to get fresh whole fishes, crabs, and other seafood) was actually closing down with only very limited items left for sale. Therefore, plane plan crashed and burned... No steamed whole fish for the night, and definitely no more seafood and groceries shopping there in the future, yet still, the dinner must go on! So I came up with the idea of replacing the fish with prawns instead. In Hokkien we say, "Boh hu hae mah ho", which literally means, "If there are no fishes, prawns are just as good."

Happy Winter Solstice 2011: Glutinous Rice Balls Making

Happy Winter Solstice 2011: Glutinous Balls Making
The glutinous balls making used to be one of our annual family activities on the eve of Winter Solstice (冬至). However, the years after me and my family far separated by the Indian and Pacific oceans, I started making them myself with some help from my BB, and this year is no exception too. I was busy preparing the dough, while he giggled and laughed all the way watching "Rush Hour 3" on the TV last night

Nuggets For The Big Kid

Home-Cook: Ingham Chicken Nuggets
I've made some chicken nuggets for the big kid at home today. They were battered and tasted so good after being deep fried to golden crispy. Mmm... yummy!!! And have you guys noticed that the kitchen in the background actually looks different from the one you used to see in my blog? Well yeah, we already moved and settled down in a new place =)

Deep Fried Pork Meatballs

Chinese Pork Meat Balls
I pre-marinated some ground pork last night with seasoning like white pepper, salt, chicken broth, tapioca starch, egg and sesame oil. The outcome was delightfully delicious, not to mention its crisp and crunchiness after deep-frying.

Potluck Dinner: Can't Get Enough

The word "Potluck" hasn't appeared on my blog for quite a while... Lets see *digging blog archives* the last time was back in the beginning of this year, a farewell potluck for our two friends who went back to Malaysia for good. And today, after almost half a year, we finally made it happen again. It was a blissful dinner we had together with delicate dishes prepared by everyone of us.

Home-Cook Sweet and Spicy Crab

Home Cooked Sweet and Spicy Crab

Oh crab crap! I'm still sick with flu and on-and-off mild fever... It has been almost one week already! And I notice the skin on my nose starts peeling off gradually these few days, when I looked myself into the mirror. That's it, no more rubbing your nose with tissue, missy!

Apart from being a sick cat patient, I also made good on my promise to cook Sweet & Spicy Blue Crab for my BB tonight. Crabs are the yummiest seafood EVER (agree with me or not) and we do LOVE them very very much, especially those barbecued mud crab with nothing else but its original flavor *drools* Damn, I feel like making a trip back to Malaysia right the way just to taste them delicious claws.

P.S. Do feel free to drop me a line if you wish to get the recipe from me. I'm more than happy to share :-)
