Frank's Belated Birthday Dinner at the Angel Cafe

Frankie's Birthday Celebration at the Angel Cafe
It started with a comforting call I received from our badminton buddy, Frank about three days ago. I was so down and moody that day, actually I had been since last Saturday. Nobody noticed it, not even Mr. Choo... I score a perfect 10 when it comes to keeping a secret, oh well, unless my life was being threatened by a gun or the life of my loved one was being threatened, then I might consider taking back what I said earlier =P Anyways, it wasn't really an earth-shakingly big secret. What's done is done. The best I can do is to stay and think as positive as I can now.

Back to the topic, Frank offered to buy me coffee and he picked the time and venue to meet up last night. It was raining, and still is as I'm writing this. We stopped by at the Cheesecake Shop, faltered a bit while deciding whether to get a Tiramisu, Black Forest or Double Chocolate cake for Frank's belated birthday surprise celebration. Tough decision and we've chosen the Double Chocolate! Soon we arrived at the Angel Cafe together, sat down to a table only to figure that, "Oh, they changed the menus again?!" They always do!!! *not impressed*

Thanks Frank, for this lovely couple shot of us =)

Muggacino, something nice to warm up the rainy evening.

Here comes the lovely Garlic Prawns dish for entrée, with seasoned rice cake, wakame (edible seaweed), sesame seeds, soy and mirin vinaigrette - $18.

The birthday boy wasn't even smiling, was he? ^^

For myself, Tempura Soft Shell Crab with avocado, sun blushed tomato, wild rocket salad, and cocktail sauce - $27.

Everyone was completely baffled and stunned for a while, when the waitress handed over the main dish I specifically requested and double confirmed in the first place. There were only like three little pieces of soft shell crabs and some veggies on the plate. Seriously?! You gotta be kidding, right?! It took my mind more than 30 seconds to start thinking (I guess I was just too shocked, LOL), they must have made it into an entrée by mistake perhaps?

So we waved for attention, and the waitress who took our orders came saying the same thing as I thought. The funniest part was, she didn't bother to apologize or try to clear things up at first, all she did was just clarifying about how we were being charged on our bills. We rejected the dish of course, and the right one came few minutes later, in a slightly bigger portion. Certainly not an ideal choice for guys with big appetite.

Bacon Carbonara with crispy bacon, seared mushrooms, confit garlic and chicken breast - $22.

Frankie ordered Bacon Carbonara as well, but with smoked salmon - $23.

Thumbs down to both the pasta dishes. They were super-duper salty and highly NOT recommended, especially to those who have high blood pressure or kidney problems. I mean, aren't the smoked salmon and crispy bacon already salty enough? *bitter smile*

After dinner and some chit-chatting, I wanted but apparently did not surprise Frank with the birthday cake we got for him. Mission failed miserably!

With the birthday boy.
It's ridiculous how they charged us $2.50 per person for the so-called "cakeage" fee.

Aww, no strawberry for me? =s

Lucky Frank got it!

The two gentlemen smiling from head to toe.

P.S. Once again, we'd like to thank him for the generous dinner treat last night! ♥
